The African Wars Scenario Readme
================================

IMPORTANT:
----------

FOR USE ONLY WITH THE FANTASY WORLDS (v2.7.81) CIV II ADD-ON DISK.

It cannot and will not work with any older version... See under
Installation for more details.

If you see the error "Failed to open modules.db" or something like that,
delete labels.txt and it should be fixed. But it should work fine under
Fantastic Worlds. If not under FW, almost the entire scenario itself
will not work.

Because I didn't want this scenario to be of an undownloadable largeness, I
did NOT include many sound effects, thus the game will use the standard Civ-
sound effects, which may give very strange and illogical effects.
JUST TURN YOUR SOUNDS OFF or make your own ones and feel free to add them to
the ZIP file and distribute it. Thank you very much.

A later version of this scenario will perhaps make use of sounds, so keep
looking for new versions of this scenario.

My homepage contains all scenarios created so far by me and always the
latest versions of them, so please visit:

A scenario by Allard H.S. Hfelt (see my homepage). If copied, this
.ZIP file MUST contain all the files it originally contained (as described
at the end of this text file). I am not responsible for any damage,
malfunction, etc. this scenario may cause. They contain icons created by
myself or from many places on the Internet. You may use any of my units
(marked with AHS) in your scenario, and probably most of the other units,
but I cannot guarantee that, for they aren't created by me. Thanks to you
all. See the Credits later in this file for more info 'bout this.

Installation:
-------------
This scenario is designed for version 2.7.81 (the version of the Fantasy Worlds
scenario disk), and is not playable with version 2.62 (the version of the
Conflicts in Civilization scenario disk).

With Fantasy scenario disk: Just make a directory in your \civ2\scenario
directory named "African". Unzip all files into this directory. Start Civ2,
select "Begin Scenario", go to \civ2\scenario\african\ and highlight
AFRICAN.SCN

Background Information:
-----------------------
In this scenario, the standard Civ game has been completely modified...
The tech tree is slightly modified, all buildable units are new and look
really good. Especially the terrain is completely new. New icons, cursors,
rules, etc. etc.
To quote Microprose: "Half the fun is finding out..." :-)

The scenario is designed for Emperor (renamed to Deity in this scenario)
level, and every civilization has a good starting point, with enough
cities, more than enough military units, and plenty of possibilities.

However, this scenario is NOT designed to be played as Africans, because
they have so many units that it's not fun to play them anymore, especially
in early phases of the game.
Of course, you could play as them, it's not forbidden, because in later
stages of the game, they will be fun to play.

History:
--------
The history of this scenario? Well, first of all, everything is historically
accurate, and very precise. However, the whole idea of Africans invading
Europe is just something I made up. THERE WAS NO AFRICAN INVASION.
But, that doesn't mean that this African attack looks like it's irrealistic.
I tried to do everything to make it look as realistic as possible, for example
they improve their architecture and units the more the conquer.
But all other things, including all events with Alexander are perfectly
historically accurate.

You can read the enclosed history.txt for more information on certain
units and other things used in this scenario.

IMPORTANT:
Because I didn't want this scenario to be of an undownloadable largeness,

Civ-sound effects, which may give very strange and illogical effects.
JUST TURN YOUR SOUNDS OFF or make your own ones and feel free to add them
to the ZIP file and distribute it. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the ones who created the icons I used in this scenario:
-Harlan Thompson for assembling his great collection of Ancient units,
which was a great help to me, and also his great cities collection.
 Great work !
Also I would like to thank Harlan for his marvellous mountain and
 hill icons.
-Michael H. Nielsen for creating the Persian cities icons.
-Microprose also for creating many units.
-Jess Balsinde for among others the fortress icon.
-Also thanks to all playtesters of this scenario.

And also:
-Microprose (for this cool game)
-And of course 2 U, as a player of this scenario. I hope you like it (I do).
I'm glad you've actually completely read this file (I didn't expect it, because
I don't ever read these stupid readmes :-) but I really had to make it I thought
 to make this scenario complete).
